On 4 March, Turu-uuringute AS will conduct the EELU2026 mobility study of the residents of Estonia on behalf of the Estonian Transport Administration and the Tallinn Transport Administration. The purpose of the study is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the daily travel patterns of people and, based on the data collected, to support the planning, development, and policymaking of mobility solutions. This includes further development of the national mobility model, which takes into account different modes of transport – walking, cycling, car use, and public transport.

During the Christmas period, Tallinn’s public transport will operate according to the Sunday timetable. On the evening of 31 December, traffic restrictions will be in place in the Freedom Square area due to the New Year’s concert and light show, and several bus routes will be diverted. After midnight, in the early hours of 1 January, the operating hours of a number of routes will be extended to ensure that people celebrating the New Year can return home safely by public transport.

The Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department will reconstruct utility networks on Lauteri Street, build new pedestrian and cycling paths, and plant greenery. The changes will improve traffic flow, access to local businesses, and the overall urban environment.

Next year, Tallinn will launch a project to count pedestrians and cyclists at key locations in the city centre. The project is supported by the European Union’s CEF Transport programme and will run until the end of 2028.

The new pedestrian tunnels on Endla Street will provide a safe and convenient route for pedestrians and cyclists between the city centre and Kristiine.

The City of Tallinn is planning a major redesign of the Kristiine junction to improve mobility for everyone and prepare for the future tramline extension.

The Tallinn Transport Department is improving traffic management at the intersection of Reidi tee and Jõe Street to increase the junction’s capacity, particularly for traffic heading towards Ahtri Street. The work includes adjustments to road markings and lane layouts to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce congestion.

This autumn, the City of Tallinn and the FinEst Centre for Smart Cities have launched a pilot project in which city buses and waste collection vehicles will begin detecting damaged or missing traffic signs. Smart sensors, or cameras, installed on the vehicles will transmit real-time information to the city about the condition of traffic signs.

Reconstruction of Peterburi maantee will begin on 18 September. The goal of the project is to redesign the street space to make it safer and more people-centred. The work will affect traffic arrangements, and public transport routes will be adjusted.

The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon and Tallinna Sügisjooks (Autumn Run) will take place on the weekend of 13–14 September, bringing tens of thousands of running enthusiasts to the districts of Põhja-Tallinn, Kesklinn, and Haabersti. As a result, there will be temporary changes to traffic and public transport.
