Tallinn took part in a Brussels meeting on the EU anti-poverty strategy, represented by Kaisa Vetemaa, Head of Child and Family Welfare Service.

Parents in Tallinn can now submit applications for assigning a local school for children starting first grade in the 2026/2027 school year until 29 March. Approximately 4,600 children will reach compulsory school age this year, and 2,887 applications have currently been submitted to the Tallinn Education Department.

A ceremonial signing event took place today at Tallinna Mustamäe Gümnaasium, where the City of Tallinn and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports of the Kingdom of Spain signed an education cooperation agreement.

Tallinn joined other EU capital cities in calling for a stronger role for cities in shaping European Union policies and funding priorities as preparations begin for the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034).

From 17–19 February, Lviv hosted an international meeting for European municipalities, attended on behalf of Tallinn by Deputy Mayor for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Kristjan Järvan. During the visit, Tallinn and Lviv signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a framework for cooperation in civil protection, crisis preparedness and the development of community resilience.

During the last two weekends of October, residents of Tallinn can once again give away hazardous waste free of charge. On October 23, hazardous waste are collected in Kesklinn and Lasnamäe, on October 24 in Kristiine and Põhja-Tallin, on October 30 in Pirita and Mustamäe, and on October 31 in Haabersti and Nõmme.

The permanent residents and companies of Aegna Island will have the opportunity to collect mixed waste separately and hand it over to door-to-door waste carriers once a month. The waste transport of the island will be organized by the Tallinn Waste Centre from 1 May.

This weekend, Sõle Sports Center and Tondiraba Ice Rink will be opened as vaccination centers for Tallinners aged 65+. Vaccinations can be registered at the digital registry from 31 March and by telephone from 1 April.

The city news are now also available to the English-speaking population all over the city, because in cooperation with the Tallinn City Centre Government and the city's communication service, a monthly newsletter started to appear from April, which reflects the most important news for expats living in Tallinn.
