City of Tallinn seeks student research to support city development
The City of Tallinn has announced the 2025 City Council Scholarship (Raestipendium) competition. The purpose of the scholarship is to support and recognise master’s and doctoral students whose research addresses Tallinn’s development and offers practical solutions for the city. Applications can be submitted from 1–15 October.
Applications now open for Tallinn school year start allowance
Starting today, parents and students in Tallinn can submit applications for the school year start allowance. This support is provided to help families cover the extra expenses that come with the start of a new school year.
Nearly 47,000 students begin the school year in Tallinn’s municipal schools
In the 2025/26 academic year, there are 60 municipal general education schools in Tallinn, with approximately 47,000 students enrolled. Around 3,700 children are starting first grade. The city also provides a start-of-school-year allowance for students up to the age of 19.
The celebration of Tallinn Day begins with the opening of Short Leg Gate on Sunday
Tallinn Day celebrates the acquisition of Lübeck city rights in 1248, which included Tallinn as a member of the Union of European Cities. On Monday, 15 May, Tallinn will be 775 years old. The birthday events will begin on 14 May, when Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart will open the Short Leg Gate.
New Tondi railway underpass ensures safer traffic
On Monday, 3 July, work will begin on a new Tondi railway crossing, which, when completed by the end of 2024, will include a new underpass allowing safer passage for both pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.
