Deputy Mayor Kaarel Oja visited Odessa, Tallinn’s partner city in Ukraine on 11-14 May and met with the mayor, members of the City Government and local cultural figures. The objective of the meetings was to reaffirm our sustained commitment to supporting Ukraine and Odessa during the ongoing war and deepen our cultural cooperation.

The Tallinn City Government plans to allocate more than 8.8 million euros in 2024 to support the transition to Estonian-language education. The measures include teacher training, recruitment of new teachers, methodological and motivational support for teachers, assistance for children transitioning to Estonian-language education, support and counseling for both parents and teachers, and the creation of an online learning environment.

This week, the more active phase of the exercise Ussisõnad (Parseltongue) begins in the Northern Territorial Defence District’s area of responsibility and some exercises will also be conducted in Tallinn on Thursday, September 7. It will not disturb the daily life of people in Tallinn.

At today’s meeting, Tallinn City Government decided to submit new land tax rates to the City Council, which, according to the draft, will take effect from 1 January 2024.
