Tallinn has once again dispatched humanitarian aid to Ukraine, sending five fully-equipped ambulances and medical equipment from the Tallinn Ambulance Service.

Next weekend, on August 24-25, the international triathlon event IRONMAN Tallinn 2024 will take place, resulting in temporary traffic restrictions and changes in public transport routes in both Tallinn and Harjumaa. In Tallinn, the temporary changes will mainly affect the Haabersti district, with parking and traffic restrictions as well as changes to public transport schedules.

This July, in response to an exceptional heatwave, Tallinn is prepared to open three cooling centers at Kaja Cultural Center, Salme Cultural Center, and Tondiraba Ice Hall. The city is also developing an emergency plan to address extreme heat conditions.

The Tallinn city government has submitted the proposal for the second supplementary budget for 2024 to the City Council, which aims to adjust planned expenses, revenues, investments, and financial transactions within the city's budget.

The Tallinn City Government is set to submit the 2025 city budget proposal to the City Council. The proposed budget totals €1.29 billion, which is €69.9 million (5.7%) higher than the revised 2024 budget. The largest portions of both investment and operational expenses are allocated to education and mobility.

The 2025 budget proposal for Tallinn prioritizes reducing fragmentation in social services and restructuring management and operations. The city plans €126.2 million for social welfare activities, €23.3 million for healthcare activities, and €16.3 million for investments across these sectors. The budget proposal is subject to approval by the City Council.

At the start of 2025, Tallinn Children’s Hospital will launch a pilot project introducing an on-call doctor service aimed at improving access to primary healthcare for more children and alleviating the workload of the emergency department.

Yesterday, a humanitarian aid shipment was sent from Tallinn to Ukraine, containing nearly 300 laptops, desktop computers, monitors, and accessories that were previously used in Tallinn city institutions and refurbished by the city’s digital services department.

During the Christmas and New Year weeks, Tallinn residents with health concerns can visit hospital emergency departments, Tallinna Hambakliinik (Tallinn Dental Clinic), on-call pharmacies, or contact the Family Doctor Advice Line.

At the end of this week, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania will connect to the continental European power grid, a transition in which local governments also play a crucial role. Tallinn already has a round-the-clock crisis readiness system in place.
