At noon on Christmas Eve, Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart proclaimed a Christmas peace, traditionally reading a historic Christmas greeting from the Town Hall window.

In autumn 2022, a support measure for conference tourism was created to attract more conference tourists to Tallinn. The maximum amount of support is planned to be up to €30 000 per conference. Tallinn will start supporting international conferences in the city next year. The first call for applications has already been launched and is open until 25 January.

In the social field, the year ended in Tallinn was marked by increased reimbursements for heating and electricity costs and the rise in the cost of living, as well as assistance for war refugees from Ukraine, but also by a number of new grants and the expansion of access to services.

On the last day of the year, 31 December at 22:00, a grand free concert will start in Vabaduse Square. Estonia's best-loved artists Anne Veski, Karl-Erik Taukar Band and 5MIINUST will perform, and at midnight there will be a light show.

As of 1 January 2023, social monitoring services in Tallinn will be provided by Koduandur OÜ and Viking Security AS, with whom the contract has been signed for three years. The service will help to increase the sense of security of people with special needs living at home by ensuring that help reaches them as quickly as possible, even if they are inoperative.

Today, 4 January, the cornerstone was laid for the Kadriorg Park Economic Building (L. Koidula 34a, Tallinn). A modern building inspired by the historical orangery is under construction, part of which will be open to visitors in the future.

The first free Museum Sunday of 2023 will take place this Sunday, 8 January. The initiative will be joined by the Nõmme Museum, located in the former station building.

The Tallinn Municipal Property Board this week launched a public procurement for the purchase of ten portable generators to ensure the continuity of Tallinn's buildings in the event of a permanent power outage. The deadline for submission of tenders is 20 January at 10am.

On 10 March, the photo exhibition "I Choose Life", depicting Ukrainians who fled to Estonia from the war and their stories, will open on Vabaduse Square. It is a social and cultural project created by Ukrainian war refugee photographers.
