Tallinn continues to pursue for the title of European Green Capital in 2023, a total of 16 cities across Europe will apply for this year’s title.

At the extraordinary meeting, the Government approved the amendment to the 2021–2023 Employment Programme that, in accordance with the proposal of the Council of the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, allows supporting the companies that have suffered the most from the restrictions. At the previous cabinet meeting, it was also decided to support the undertakings of the Ministry of Education and Research and of the Ministry of Culture.

On March 10, from 4 pm to 5:30 pm, City Center Government and City Center New Arrivals Council organizes a webinar for English-speaking Talliners on the topic “Waste sorting and recycling in Tallinn”. The webinar features speakers from the Estonian Ministry of the Environment, the Stockholm Environmental Institute and a social enterprise BinFree. Registration closes on March 9th.

Construction work for the construction of Tondiraba Park in Lasnamäe will start in March. The park will become the largest recreation area in the capital, which will provide plenty of space for both people and nature.

Ukrainian war refugees will continue to receive primary clothing assistance from the Recycling Centre (Punane 50) until 22 June, using the smartcard validation system.

The Tallinn City Government has assigned the name of Ukraine Square to the so far unnamed square in Lembitu Park in the Sibulaküla subdistrict of Tallinn city centre.

Over the last two weekends of May, a total of 1,444 residents of Tallinn handed over altogether 26.5 tonnes of hazardous waste in the collection campaign, and 1.5 tonnes of reusable items were donated for recycling.

Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart, together with a five-member delegation, is taking part in the Eurocities conference in Espoo, Finland, from 8-10 June. Mayor Kõlvart will also attend the Eurocities executive committee meeting and annual general meeting.

In June, July and August, the Tallinn cycle paramedics team is once again patrolling in the Tallinn Old Town and City Centre. The cycle paramedics are able to respond quickly and operatively to medical emergencies in crowded areas.

On Thursday in Männi park, Tallinn Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet and Deputy Head of Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department Tarmo Sulg presented the concept for planning and constructing the public toilets in urban space, and stressed that the city's priority is to gradually increase the share of permanent toilets.
