Starting next Monday, 14 June, and lasting until the end of August, 18 school stadiums will be open to the public in Tallinn for sports.

For the upcoming year, Tallinn's budget allocates nearly 396 million euros for educational operations, representing almost 41% of the total operating costs. The primary focuses include the transition to Estonian-language education, increased investment, and raising the minimum wage for teachers.

The initial phase of Tallinn's “Safe School Route” (“Turvaline koolitee”) program is set to focus on 14 schools within the city, addressing safety challenges around school vicinities such as safe sidewalks, bike lanes, street crossings, parking areas, and the implementation of traffic calming measures. Over the coming years, the program is planned to expand, encompassing all schools within Tallinn that require similar safety enhancements in their surrounding areas.

Starting March 1, parents in Tallinn can submit applications for assigning a local school to children entering first grade at municipal schools on September 1, 2024.

On April 11, Räägu School commemorated its second year of operation with a celebratory concert and ceremony. Established on April 11, 2022, as a branch of Tallinna Lilleküla Gümnaasium, the school provides education to children displaced by the war in Ukraine. It currently has 18 classes with a total enrollment of 417 students.

The Tallinn Education Department has started notifying parents about the school place assignments for children entering the first grade on September 1, 2024. Parents have until June 10 to confirm their child’s school placement.

In Tallinn's 57 municipal schools, 48,589 pupils will start the school year, including 3,868 first-graders.

Every summer, Tallinn renews the road markings around educational institutions to make children's journeys to school or kindergarten safer and drivers more attentive to small pedestrians. This summer, 324 pedestrian crossings around schools and 413 around kindergartens were updated, and on 1 September, police and municipal police officers will also help to ensure safety.

Tallinn Tondi School will celebrate its 100th birthday this year. The centenary was celebrated with a festive concert on 19 January.

At the 18th Tallinn Youth Work Awards Gala "Suured teod" held yesterday, the nominees for 2022 were recognised in five categories: great achievements of Tallinn's youth, great achievements for Tallinn's youth, Tallinn youth worker of the year, Tallinn young volunteer of the year and Tallinn youth association of the year.
