Tallinn nurseries and schools teach children how to reduce waste
During the past school year, an environmental education programme had been carried out in Tallinn nurseries and schools encouraging children to reuse and recycle things and to develop the habit of sorting waste by type.
New Tondi railway underpass ensures safer traffic
On Monday, 3 July, work will begin on a new Tondi railway crossing, which, when completed by the end of 2024, will include a new underpass allowing safer passage for both pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.
Next stage of Vanasadam tramway construction to affect tram traffic and cause traffic changes
From Monday, 3 July, the Narva mnt-Hobujaama-Laikmaa intersection will be closed as part of the next stage of the Vanasadam tramway construction. As such, tram lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be halted until the end of August. Viru terminal will be temporarily closed and public transport redirected.
Start of school year brings challenging traffic conditions
Due to ongoing roadworks in Tallinn City Centre, residents are advised to use public transport and plan extra time for their journeys. The challenging traffic conditions are partially alleviated in the autumn by the gradual restoration of tram lines and the reopening of several intersections for cars.
Several bus line numbers and routes to change in Tallinn from 1 August
Starting from 1 August, several bus line numbers and routes will be changed – the changes will affect lines number 5, 6, 8, 17, 17A, 35, 42, 43, 48, 67 and 68.
Kõlvart: Bus line no. 5 will be continuing along regular route
The city of Tallinn has decided to have bus line no. 5 continue along its regular Männiku-Metsakooli route from 1 August. The planned changes to bus lines no. 8, 17, 17A, 35, 42, 43, 48, 67 and 68 will go into effect on 1 August.
The city has helped nearly 400 children purchase a bicycle
Tallinn provides a subsidy for 10–15-year-old children to help them purchase a bicycle under the “Bike to School” programme. The subsidy is granted as a one-time payment and can be up to 100 euros. It is meant for children who have received their cyclist's permits in the year of their application or in the preceding year. Additionally, children can apply for a subsidy of up to 25 euros for purchasing a bicycle helmet.
The Koidu tänav street space architecture competition has begun
Tallinn has announced a single-stage architecture competition to seek out a new design that would fit the concepts of Koidu tänav as a home street as well as the main street of Uus-Maailm. The competition covers the area between Suur-Ameerika tänav, Koidu tänav and Pärnu maantee.
