Tallinn's transport priorities for the coming year are to increase public transport drivers' salaries, introduce 150 new gas buses as well as to carry out preparations for the renewal of the public transport network and the tender for eight new trams.
As Tallinn’s public transport is transitioning over to more environmentally friendly natural gas powered buses, the city transport company Tallinna Linnatransport (TLT) is auctioning 36 diesel-powered city buses.
This Sunday, Tallinn Day, at 12.30pm, a collection of vintage buses will parade from Vabaduse väljak (Freedom Square) to Kadriorg Park. Townspeople can take a ride on ten old-timer buses that no longer run on the Estonian bus routes today.
Tallinn Day is celebrated as fitting to a UNESCO City of Music - with a wide range of music events and concerts. The programme starts on Friday 13 May with a music morning in Tallinn schools.
The second day of the Tallinn Day program, 14 May, will be dedicated to the city districts, which will organize several exciting events. One of the highlights of the spring season will be the flower-planting workshops in the districts of Kesklinn, Haabersti, Nõmme, Kristiine, Lasnamäe, and Põhja-Tallinn.
On Sunday 22 May, from 12 noon to 3 pm, a free family event will take place on Vabaduse väljak (Freedom Square) to mark 100 years since the start of regular bus services in Tallinn.
The development project of the year, collaborative project of the year, start-up of the year, tourism deed of the year, job creator of the year, future solution and eco-innovation awards were announced at the Tallinn Business Awards gala held at the Song Festival Grounds on 30 September. Awards were also presented for the best applied research projects.
From today, 3 September to 1 October, all Tallinners will be able to submit proposals on which projects could be funded from the city's participatory budget in 2022.
During the last two weekends, 21-22 and 27-29 August, a total of 2,690 people were vaccinated in 16 schools in Tallinn. Vaccinees will receive a second dose on October 2, 9 or 10 at the same school where the first dose was administered. During that time, people who want to get their first vaccination are also welcome in schools.
