Tallinn Day will be celebrated for the 21st time on Sunday 15 May, but the first events to mark the city's birthday will take place on Friday 13 May.

Tallinn will distribute a total of 100 separate waste collection kits to 17 educational institutions in this spring, with an aim to improve the efficiency of separate waste collection in schools and hobby schools.

Last Sunday, more than 6,370 people visited the museums that have joined the Tallinn Museum Sunday programme.

The architectural competition for the extension of Tallinna Reaalkool – Tallinn Secondary School of Science – has been won by an Estonian architecture office Molumba with the design R². Construction is scheduled to start in 2024.

According to the new waste management plan, Tallinn will expand separate collection of biowaste and textile waste, and turn waste collection stations into circular economy centres.

In order to ensure safer migration routes for amphibians, Tallinn applies a temporary prohibition on motor vehicle traffic on Astangu Street from 31 March to 14 April from 9 pm to 6 am. The restriction involves the section of Astangu Street between Kotermaa Street 1 and Astangu Street 19/3. The traffic restriction does not apply to public transport passing through Astangu Street.

The City of Tallinn is awarding a total of €110 307 to 19 organisations in the second quarter of the cultural non-profit funding round. In addition, a total of €69 491 in operating grants will be awarded to 60 Song and Dance Festival groups.

Tallinn started its spring cleaning this week, with the work lasting at least a month depending on weather conditions. The first areas to be cleared are the main streets, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, pavements and public transport waiting areas, where debris and dirt accumulated over the winter will be removed. Spring cleaning will end with a major street wash.

The national Environmental Board is seeking the opinion of the City of Tallinn on a geological survey for the opening of a new quarry in Nõmme, the area between Viljandi Road and Lake Raku. Tallinn strongly opposes the opening of the new quarry and rejects the application.

A temporary prohibition on motor vehicle traffic on Astangu Street in the Haabersti district to ensure safer migration routes for amphibians, originally planned from 31 March to 14 April, will be postponed to start from 10 April to 30 April. The traffic restriction will be in force from 9 pm to 6 am on the stretch from Kotermaa Street 1 to Astangu Street 19/3. The restriction does not apply to public transport passing through Astangu Street.
