Tallinn city district governments have created over 78 collection points for Christmas trees. The list of the collection points is available on the Tallinn city website.

Tallinn's district governments have set up a total of 79 collection points across the city where old Christmas trees can be given away for free. Collected Christmas trees are not dumped in landfills, but are reused for district heating in the city's houses or to generate electricity.

Tallinn Tondi School will celebrate its 100th birthday this year. The centenary was celebrated with a festive concert on 19 January.

On Friday 20 January, Tallinn will host the inaugural conference of the European Green Capital Year for Sustainable Cities "Fantastic Creatures: Making European Cities Safe, Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable". Tallinn City Government sent a request to the City Council to change the draft amendment of the public events procedure and the waste management regulation. The aim of the new amendment is to ban the use of disposable cutlery during public events held in Tallinn.

Tallinn City Council adopted new waste management regulations at its Thursday session, one of the aims of which is to switch to reusable cutlery at public events in Tallinn.

From 1 June, all properties, irrespective of their purpose or the number of apartments, will have to start collecting their bio-waste separately. From tomorrow, 15 March, in addition to single-family houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses and houses with up to two apartments and houses with 3 to 9 apartments can also apply for free bio-waste collection containers.

In spring, it will be easier for people in the green capital to hand over scrap tyres. They can bring their used car tyres to any of the capital’s waste treatment facilities – Paljassaare, Pärnamäe, Rahumäe and Pääsküla. The Loksa waste treatment facility will also accept scrap tyres from businesses.
