City of Tallinn and Open School Foundation sign a memorandum for the establishment of a new municipal school
Today, the City of Tallinn and the Avatud Kool SA (Open School Foundation) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a new Estonian-language municipal general education school in Põhja-Tallinn. The agreement confirms the collaboration to create Tallinn Open School, providing a diverse educational offering and additional school places in the area.
Nearly 3,380 municipal school employees in Tallinn participate in the teachers' strike
As the nationwide strike of general education school teachers begins on Monday, January 22, most of Tallinn's municipal general education schools will participate. Starting from Wednesday, January 24, support strikes will also be initiated by employees of pre-school, hobby, and vocational education institutions.
Deadline for first-grade enrollment applications extended to March 24
Parents in Tallinn have until this Sunday, March 24, to submit applications for assigning a school by place of residence for children entering the first grade in the 2024/2025 academic year. This year, about 4,600 children reach school age, and the Tallinn Education Department is awaiting applications or notifications of waiver from about 900 children.
Tallinn Day celebrations extend over two days this year
This year is the 776th anniversary of the day Tallinn was granted city rights under Lübeck Law. This significant historical event will be celebrated during Tallinn Day, now in its 23rd occurrence. The festivities will take place on May 15 and 18, welcoming all residents and visitors.
Program announced: Tall Ships Races brings over 60 sailing ships and a maritime festival to Tallinn
From July 11 to 14, Tallinn will host the world’s largest sailing training regatta, Tall Ships Races, at Lennusadam, Noblessner Harbour, and the Old City Harbour cruise area. Over the course of four days, the harbors will be filled with a festive atmosphere – visitors can explore sailing ships, enjoy performances by Estonia’s top artists, and participate in activities both on land and at sea.

Tallinn Entrepreneurship Day encourages ambitious business ideas
On October 1, the annual Tallinn Entrepreneurship Day, themed "Forethought," will focus on the importance of strategic thinking and future-oriented approaches across various aspects of entrepreneurship. A total of 53 events, including seminars and workshops, will take place at the Radisson Collection Hotel Conference Center and other locations throughout the city. Registration opens today, September 17.
Tallinn notifies parents of first grade school placements
The Tallinn Education Department has started notifying parents about the school place assignments for children entering the first grade on September 1, 2024. Parents have until June 10 to confirm their child’s school placement.
