According to the European Environment Agency, Tallinn ranks 4th in Europe in terms of the quality of urban air, closely following Umeå, Sweden; Tampere, Finland and Funchal, Portugal.

At the opening event of the Tallinn-led European Network of 19 Cities for Sustainable Development, the partner cities presented their plans on how to promote green mobility and curb car use and achieve other sustainable development goals of the UN.

At yesterday’s meeting, the Tallinn City Council confirmed Tallinn's participation in three TalTech Smart City Centre of Excellence projects and agreed to their bridge financing. Participation in the projects contributes to the achievement of Tallinn's climate goals, the development of Tallinn as a smart city and the pursuit to become European green capital.

Tallinn will lead the newly launched network of 19 European cities, which aims to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.

Today, Tallinn unveiled a Climate Strategy that sets the goal of making the capital climate neutral by 2050. The progressive Tallinn Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Adaptation Plan aims to reduce the urban and economic impact on the climate in a way that enriches the economy and the urban environment. The members of the Tallinn City Government decided not to index the salaries of the members of the City Government for the second year in a row, considering the economic impacts of the corona epidemic.
