The Vanasadam (Old City Harbour) tramway was officially opened today, with regular tram services set to begin on Sunday, December 1.

Each year, the world’s largest network of destinations committed to sustainability, Green Destinations, highlights inspiring examples from across the globe by publishing its Top 100 stories list. This year, Tallinn’s story, “From the Singing Revolution to The Anti-Waste Revolution: How We Cleaned Up Our Nation’s Backbone Event”, was selected for this prestigious list.

On October 16, the Lilleküla Circular Economy Center (located at Mustjõe 40) was officially opened, marking the first of its kind in both Tallinn and Estonia. The center offers residents the opportunity to sort their waste and repair items.

Today, the new modern building of Maasikas Kindergarten (Vasara 18) was officially opened. The new facility accommodates 240 children in 12 groups, with a total project cost exceeding €9.4 million.

From October 15–18, Eesti Keskkonnateenused AS conducted a pilot project to test an electric waste truck in its serviced areas. Initial results favor internal combustion engines but also show potential for more sustainable waste collection solutions.

The Tallinn Entrepreneurship Awards competition recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs and initiatives that contribute to the city's development. Applications are open until Tuesday, September 10.

Tallinn Central Library and its branch libraries will open from 9 AM during the first half of next week, from January 22 to 24, coinciding with the beginning of the teachers' strike. They welcome children and students to come in for reading and studying.

The City of Tallinn and the Estonian School Sports Union have entered into a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing collaboration and supporting and increasing the physical activity of school-aged students. The agreement was signed by Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart and the President of the Estonian School Sports Union, Gerd Kanter.

As a UNESCO City of Music, Tallinn pays special attention to music events that that add vibrancy to the city's cultural lineup. For the first round of music project grants in 2024, the city will allocate a total of €154,070 to support 32 initiatives. A record number of 90 projects were submitted for this funding round.

At the 16th annual Estonian food industry conference, winners of the "Best Estonian Food Product 2024" competition were announced, where OÜ Vegestar (branded as Thormi) received the traditional Tallinn Special Award for their vegan pâté with black truffle.
