The Tallinn City Government has submitted to the City Council a 2023 city budget with a total amount of 1.14 billion euros, which is 66.5 million or 6.2% more than the 2022 budget. The focus of next year’s budget will be on social security, with most of the investment going into roads, streets and education.

Today, 22 March, at 12 noon, the Tallinn Social Work Centre opened the exhibition "My Bear" in the service bureau of the Tallinn City Office (Vabaduse väljak 7), featuring the joint creations of the Centre's clients and staff.

Tallinn's city planning goal for the new year is to plan a more people-centered and sustainable city. Among other things, it means dividing public space and street space in favor of sustainable ways of moving, and planning a greener and more active urban space.

In the field of education, attention was paid to improving the indoor climate and accessibility of schools and renovating kindergartens, while a major challenge was to solve the educational problems of children of war refugees from Ukraine.

The Tallinn City Government has submitted a budget proposal for 2024 to the City Council, totaling 1.26 billion euros, marking an increase of 79.5 million euros or 6.7 percent compared to the revised 2023 budget.

For the upcoming year, Tallinn's budget allocates nearly 396 million euros for educational operations, representing almost 41% of the total operating costs. The primary focuses include the transition to Estonian-language education, increased investment, and raising the minimum wage for teachers.

In the coming 2023/2024 school year, Tallinn will continue paying significant attention to improving learning environments in schools and hobby schools. In September, a new building will be opened for the Mustamäe Hobby School. A total of ten more learning facilities are also in the construction or planning phase. Hiiu School, which starts operating on 1 September, will soon join the present network of schools.

The website of Tallinn’s Education Office offers an opportunity to explore an online catalogue of recreational activities, providing information on extracurricular activities in Estonian and Russian for schoolchildren and youngsters.

Next year's budget for Tallinn's education sector includes a pay rise for school and nursery school teachers. The 2023 budget also includes increased payments for school lunches and other investments for educational establishments.
