This autumn, the City of Tallinn and the FinEst Centre for Smart Cities have launched a pilot project in which city buses and waste collection vehicles will begin detecting damaged or missing traffic signs. Smart sensors, or cameras, installed on the vehicles will transmit real-time information to the city about the condition of traffic signs.

The City of Tallinn has announced the 2025 City Council Scholarship (Raestipendium) competition. The purpose of the scholarship is to support and recognise master’s and doctoral students whose research addresses Tallinn’s development and offers practical solutions for the city. Applications can be submitted from 1–15 October.

This September, Estonia will host a rare basketball spectacle: the Japanese top-league club Yokohama B-Corsairs, featuring Estonian national team star Maik-Kalev Kotsar, and the newly crowned Polish champions Warsaw Legia, coached by Heiko Rannula, will play a series of pre-season exhibition games in Estonia. Their opponents will include each other as well as Estonia’s top clubs BC Kalev/Cramo and Tartu Ülikool Maks & Moorits.

From 1 September, Tallinn, in cooperation with Rae Municipality and Põhja-Eesti Ühistranspordikeskus (North-Estonia Public Transport Centre), will launch bus line No. 47, connecting Ülemiste City and Peetri. Initially, the new line will operate until the end of this year.

At today’s meeting, the Tallinn City Government appointed new district governors for Kesklinn and Pirita. Starting from August 20th, Ahti Kallikorm will lead the Kesklinn district, and Ivan Lavrentjev will head the Pirita district.

This Wednesday, Tallinn will celebrate Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day with its annual concert at Harjumägi, August 20th Square. The concert will feature performances by Anett and Valter Soosalu, accompanied by the Tallinn Police Orchestra under the direction of Riivo Jõgi. The mayor of Tallinn, Jevgeni Ossinovski, will also greet fellow citizens on the occasion.

Today, the Mayor of Tallinn, Mihhail Kõlvart, and the Mayor of Tartu, Urmas Klaas, signed a cooperation agreement to facilitate the co-operation between the European Green Capital 2023 Tallinn and the European Capital of Culture 2024 Tartu for mutual advantage.

According to the European Environment Agency, Tallinn ranks 4th in Europe in terms of the quality of urban air, closely following Umeå, Sweden; Tampere, Finland and Funchal, Portugal.
