Eurocities SDG Task Force has produced a new position paper calling for cities to have a stronger voice in global sustainability and governance processes.

With its first Voluntary Local Review, Tallinn aims to show how cities can make sustainability real — in planning, policy, and daily life.

So said Yuliia Zamushynska, ecologist from the EcoVin Municipal Utility Company in Vinnytsia (Ukraine) when she introduced plans for developing waste management in Vinnytsia during a study visit to Tallinn last week.

Key takeaways from the peer learning event exploring the "why, what, how and with whom" of VLRs

On 10 September, Tallinn’s Sustainability Governance Hub – in collaboration with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre – hosted a hybrid peer learning session to explore the “why, what, how and with whom” of Voluntary Local Reviews – a growing global movement where cities and regions report progress on the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

During summer we found out that the event proposal “Local Perspectives - Cities Leading the Way to Achieving the SDGs” to the 12th edition of UN Habitat’s World Urban Forum - submitted together with the UN Environment Programme, OECD, European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and Eurocities - was successful!

On Tuesday 4th June 11.00-13.00, the Committee of Regions (CoR) organised a 2024 EU SDGs dialogue with regions and cities: Financing SDGs territorialisation in Brussels, offering a structured dialogue between the Committee of Regions, European Commission and EU local and regional authorities on SDGs financing.
